Regional Initiatives
Like Port Alberta, there are efforts underway that seek to bring increased value and potential for the community, industry and economy. Port Alberta will explore opportunities where collaboration can enhance the value of these efforts for all stakeholders. Some of these initiatives include:
- Alberta's Industrial Heartland, Canada's largest hydrocarbon processing region recently announced a shift in focus from oil upgrading to value-added processing and the production of alternative energy. Given Port Alberta's focus on facilitating the creation of an Energy Super Hub in the Greater Edmonton area, we fully support the Heartland's developments in this area.
- Edmonton's Capital Region Board has provided new direction to its membership, identifying, among other key opportunities for Port Alberta, the importance of “connecting people, goods and information directly to the Global Marketplace.” As a collaborative solution to the issues facing Edmonton's varied businesses our organization intends to meet this regional demand directly.
- Canada's Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative has worked to improve goods movement in Western Canada through public and private investment partnerships on key infrastructure. Beyond the steel and concrete investments, the APGCI work is focused on developing opportunities to maximize value of these investments for Canadian business.
