Air
Aviation is all about speed.
In terms of global commerce, goods and services that rely on air transportation tend to have a high value quotient. Approximately 30% of international trade moves by air transport, yet aircraft capacity represents less than 3% of the total global capacity for transportation. When you need something quickly or when success depends on getting it to market sooner than later, air transportation is the solution.
Alberta has the advantage of international airports operating in both its major cities, reflecting the strength of the Alberta economy. Runways represent access to global markets measured in hours, not weeks, and the proper infrastructure at these airports is critical to ensure the value proposition of speed is delivered to Albertans.
The Edmonton International Airport (EIA) has the geography and location advantage to serve all of Alberta via the Capital Region. Port Alberta at EIA includes facilities, aeronautical infrastructure and over 1,400 acres of land designated to accommodate mass cargo movement through development opportunities linking aircraft with road networks. Phase one of Port Alberta at EIA began in 2010 with land servicing — the first new air cargo facility is expected to open in 2011.
Port Alberta’s relationship with EIA has always been an important component of our organization’s development. We are committed to expanding our access to the airport and, in the process, access to new, global markets for Alberta business.
Improving air transport services means Port Alberta will work with businesses that will utilize air accessibility to identify infrastructure, policy or service barriers that restrain market growth. Port Alberta will collaborate with air service providers and stakeholders to reduce or eliminate these barriers and increase the competitiveness and value of the market.
